about
I study small grains that tell geologic stories. Currently this entails observing, quantifying, and predicting the behavior, both during deposition and during induced fracturing, of mud and mudstone.
My two main active fields of study are tied together by the common thread of mud/mudstone, and are: (1) process sedimentology study of the Juana Lopez Member of the Mancos Shale Formation across the Colorado Plateau, and (2) stress-strain analysis of the geomechanical behavior of a broad range of mudstone samples under varying pressure states.
